A morning session on the UK Bribery Act.
What do I need to know?
The Bribery Act, which come into force on the 1st July 2011, will transform the legal framework for corruption and bribery in the UK and overseas. The Act will introduce new offences, including the corporate offence of "failure to prevent bribery" and up to ten year jail terms with unlimited fines. Organisations can prevent their exposure to fines, convictions and reputational risk by clearly showing their adequate procedures to prevent this kind activity. This seminar will focus on the practical considerations for a business to consider and enable delegates to implement a watertight, risk-based system of policies and procedures to prevent bribery and be fully Act-compliant.
Latest on the Act
On the 30th March 2011, the Ministry of Justice published their guidelines on adequate procedures to comply with the Act. Using these guidelines, this session will focus on the practical considerations for businesses of all sizes and enable your organisation to:
- understand the legal principles
- ensure your response is proportional
- assess the organisation's bribery risk
- determine management's cooperation and engagement with staff
- determine the scale and scope of due diligence to be done
- implement procedures for monitoring and review
- document progress to show tangible evidence and avoid penalties
